Can NRIs use UPI?

Yes. NRIs can now use UPI to make payments within India through their Kotak NRE or NRO accounts provided their International or Indian mobile numbers are linked to the bank account. UPI payments are currently supported for International numbers across: USA, UK, UAE, Singapore, Canada, Australia, Hong Kong, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, France and Malaysia.

 

 

How do I activate UPI on my Kotak NRE/NRO account?

To activate UPI:

  • Open the Kotak app
  • Go to ‘Pay’ tab
  • Under ‘Transfer Money’ choose ‘UPI’ and click on ‘Get Started’
  • Create UPI ID and use your phone number as a UPI number.
  • Click “Continue” to create and complete linking your UPI ID with your bank account.

 

 

Is UPI available on both NRE and NRO accounts?

Yes. UPI is now supported on both NRE and NRO accounts at Kotak Mahindra Bank.

 

 

Can I use UPI to make payments from my NRE/NRO account to Indian accounts?

Yes. You can use UPI to pay individuals or merchants within India, provided your account is UPI enabled and your mobile number is linked with your bank account.

 

 

Can I receive payments into my NRO Kotak account via UPI?

Yes. NRO accounts support both receiving and making payments via UPI.
