What is USSD service?

USSD or Unstructured Supplementary Service Data means a real-time or instant session-based messaging service. National Unified USSD Platform (NUUP) is offered on a short code: *99#. The service allows every banking customer to access banking services with a single number across all banks - irrespective of the telecom service provider, mobile handset make or the region.

Why should I use *99# USSD services?

You can access details of your Kotak Mahindra Bank account and transfer funds with this service. GPRS (internet) facility and smart phones are not required for this.

How secure is the USSD (*99#) services?

This service can only be used from the preferred mobile number registered with the Bank

What are the different requests I can avail by using USSD (*99#) service?

 You can avail following features:

  • Balance enquiry
  • Fund transfer (to a Mobile Number, Virtual Payment Address, IFSC/Ac no)
  • Transaction history (done via USSD)

Do I need to register with the bank in order to avail this service?

Yes. You need to register by dialing *99# and selecting the bank of your choice. You can later change the selected bank by visiting the My Profile section.

I want to change the Bank account linked to my mobile number on USSD?

You can dial *99#   -> Type 4 for "My Profile"   -> Type 1 to Change Bank Account

Do I need to set the UPI PIN to transfer funds?

Yes. It is mandatory to set the UPI PIN for fund transfer. You can do so dialing *99# and typing 7 to Set/Change UPI PIN

What is the amount I can transfer using USSD?

Transfer limits:
  • INR 5000 per transaction
  • INR 5000 per day

How do I check my own Virtual Payment Address?

You can dial *99#   -> Type 4 for "My Profile"   -> Type 4 for "Payment Address"

How will get to know if Funds have been transferred?

You will get an SMS from the Bank when your account is debited.

Do I need to have an account to use this service?

Yes you need to have a Bank account to use this service.

Will I be charged by the Bank?

Kotak Mahindra Bank does not charge any fees for this service. However, charges, as applicable, may be levied by telecom operators.

On what kind of mobile phone the service is available? Is my handset compatible?

The service works on all GSM based phones. (regular feature phones and smartphones)

Check your account balance on the move

  • You will get account balance of the desired account

  • You will get last 5 transactions done via USSD

Easy Steps for Registration, Setting UPI PIN and Fund Transfer Process

  1. USSD Registration (Mandatory)
    1. Type *99# on the key pad of the phone or typing *99# by opening the dialer
    2. Select language by entering the relevant menu number.
    3. Select Kotak Mahindra Bank by typing "Kotak" or "KKBK". The bank account numbers will be fetched that are linked to the mobile number. Select the account number that you want to link.
  2. Set UPI PIN (Mandatory)
    1. Dial *99# to set UPI PIN or simply click on Confirm post Registration to set UPI PIN
    2. Enter the last 6 digits of debit card and expiry date (mmyy) separated by a single space (For ex. 23344 0923) and then confirm.
    3. Enter the UPI PIN of choice. This will be a 6 digit PIN for Kotak and confirm
    4. Re-enter the 6 digits and confirm.
    5. The UPI PIN is now set and you can do transactions on *99#.
  3. Send Money
    1. Send money to Mobile Number (Beneficiary should also be registered on USSD)
      • Dial *99#
      • Type 1 to Send Money
      • Type 1 to send money to Mobile Number
      • Enter Beneficiary Mobile Number
      • Enter Amount
      • Enter UPI PIN & submit
    2. Send money to VPA (Virtual Payment Address) of beneficiary
